Eastern Front
Austrian commander-in-chief General Conrad von Hotzendorf, orders his men to form a new defensive line on the Gnipa-Lipa river. The Russians advance slowly towards this new line giving the Austrians time to prepare. The attack coems on 30 August.
War at Sea
Arethusa class cruiser HMS Arethusa becomes the flagship of Commodore R. Y. Tyrwhitt, commander of the Harwich Force.
Western Front
British Royal Marines enter Ostend. They are withdrawn on 31 August, but the port doesn't fall to the Germans until October.
