Fort Pontisse becomes the first of the Liege forts to be bombarded by the German 420mm Howitzers. The fort is wrecked by 12.30.
Remus von Woyrsch is given orders to invade Russia operating alongside the Austrians on his right.
Admiral von Spee's squadron leaves Pagan Island in the Ladrones. While at the island he was joined by the Emden and the Prinz Eitel Freidrich. When the fleet leaves the Pagan Islands the Emden is detached and heads into the Indian Ocean.
