Western Front
Battle of Lorraine: French begin a general attack in Lorraine, using their First Army (General Auguste Dubsail) and Second Army (General Noel de Castelnau). For the next four days the Germans withdraw slowly, drawing the French into a trap.
War at Sea
Cruiser HMS Sapphire is transfered from 7th Battle Squadron of Channel Fleet to the new Southern Force, used to guard the eastern end of the channel as the BEF crossed to France.
