Fighting takes place across the entire line from the Oise to the Somme just south of Albert. The Germans fail to break the French line and the main focus of their efforts moves north towards Arras.
German troops have retreated sixty miles in a week, escaping from much larger Russian forces that have followed them from Warsaw.
