Western Front

Since 26 August General Gallieni has commanded the Paris garrison. This meant that his troops didn't come under the command of General Joffre, who commanded the field armies. On 1 September Maunoury's Sixth Army also entered the Paris area and came under Gallieni's command. On 2 September Joffre convinced the French government to end this anomaly and Gallieni's men came under Joffre's overall command.
