The Belgian army launches a second counterattack from Antwerp, but this only reaches Vilvoorde, ten miles outside the outer line of fortresses protecting Antwerp.
The French Fifth Army (Franchet d'Esperey) attacks the exposed right flank of General Bulow's Second Army (the second army in the German line east of Paris), advancing into a gap between Bulow and Kluck's First Army. The Germans realise that they endangered and both Bulow and Kluck decide to retreat back to the Aisne.
