First Battle of the Marne

German First Army (Kluck) continues to move south across the Marne despite being attacked from the west by the French Sixth Army.

War at Sea

The Nurnberg rejoins Admiral von Spee's squadron at Fanning and Christmas Islands, with news of the New Zealand expedition to Samoa. Von Spee decides to go to Samoa to see if there are any isolated targets for him.
