Captain Harry Ranken, RAMC, suffered a serious leg injury while treating the wounded on 19 September. He refuses to leave his post until 20 September and dies of his wounds on 25 September. He is awarded a posthumous VC for his actions.

War at Sea

The German cruiser SMS Konigsberg sinks the British cruiser HMS Pegasus, a Pelorus class light cruiser, at Zanzibar, after catching her while undergoing boiler repairs.
