Ludendorff Offensive: Battle of the Lys

The Battle of the Lys ends. The Germans capture the Scherpenberg on the last day of the battle but make little progress elsewhere.

Once again the Germans have created a large salient in the Allied lines, but have failed to achieve a breakthrough and have lost another 120,000 men.

War at Sea

Wickes class destroyer USS Lea (DD-118) is launched at William Cramp & Sons of Philadelphia . She saw service very late in the First World War, before operating on convoy escort duty in the Atlantic for most of the Second World War.
