22 April 1918
British forces carry out a daring raid on Zeebrugge, hoping to block the entrance to the harbour with three blockships. The attack begins at 23.20 on 22 April when the monitors with the force open fire. HMS Vindictive lands a raiding force on the mole at one minute past midnight. The raid is a partial success and a great morale boost at a difficult moment in the war.
