Ludendoff Offensives: Second Battle of the Somme

End of the Second Battle of the Somme. The Germans have created a massive bulge in the Allied lines, but they have lost between 200,000 and 300,000 men and haven't achieved their aim of splitting the Allied lines.

First battle of Villers-Bretonneux

The last German attack on Villers-Bretonneux never really gains any momentum. The failure of this attack forces Ludendorff to cancel the entire Somme offensive.

War at Sea

The Wickes class destroyer USS Radford (DD-120) is launched at Newport News. She saw service in the last month of the First World War and that was briefly selected for use as a mobile target vessel before being scrapped under the terms of the London Naval Treaty
