War at Sea
The elderly Cunard liner Campania, a record breaker earlier in her career, is purchased from the breakers for conversion into a seaplane carrier. She enters service as HMS Campania and is present at Jutland.
The battleship HMS Bulwark explodes while taking on ammunition at Sheerness. Poor ammo handling is later blamed for the disaster in which all but 12 for the 750 crew are killed.
