Eastern Front

Second battle of Warsaw

The failure of the first German attack on Warsaw in late October leaves German Silesia vulnerable to attack. As the Russian armies move west towards Germany the Germans move their Ninth Army from East Prussia to the Silesia front. The plan is for this army to attack south towards Warsaw, hitting the Russian right flank.

General Otto von Below is give command of the German Eighth Army, becoming the youngest general of his rank (General of Infantry) to command an army.

Siege of Tsingtao

The German defenders of Tsingtao surrender to the Japanese.
