Battle of the Somme: Battle of Fromelles

Second and final day of the Battle of Fromelles, launched in an attempt to prevent the Germans moving reinforcements from the quiet Sixth Army sector to the Somme. The attack on 19 July achieves little and on 20 July most Briitsh troops are forced back to their original lines. On the same day the Germans move the Guard Reserve Corps from the Sixth Army to the Somme.

War in the Air

Fokker M.19 reaches Adlershof for testing. The type is ordered into production as the Fokker D.III biplane.

War at Sea

HMS Warspite rejoins the fleet after her Jutland damage is repaired.
