First Battle of the Somme/ Battle of Albert, 1916

End of the Battle of Ablert, the official British name for the first two weeks of the Battle of the Somme. After the disasters of the first day of the battle, most British efforts are focused on gaining good positions for a planned attack on the German second line on Bazentine Ridge.

Battle of the Somme: Battle of Bazentine Ridge

On the night of 13-14 July XIII corps, part of General Rawlinson's Fourth Army, advances half a mile into no-man-lands in preparation for a dawn attack on 14 July.
