Fritz von Below is awarded the Pour le Mérite for his role in the Second Battle of the Masurian Lakes.

Dardanelles

Night of 14-15 March sees first attempt to use minesweepers manned by naval crews (supported by HMS Amethyst). They are picked up by a searchlight and come under heavy fire. The Amethyst is hit by two shells and suffers sixty casualties.

War at Sea

HMS Glasgow and HMS Kent and the Armed Merchantman Orama corner the cruiser Dresden, the last survivor of von Spee's fleet. The Dresden is scuttled to avoid capture.
