Battle of Neuve-Chapelle

Start of the battle of Neuve-Chapelle, a small-scale British offensive designed to reduce a German salient south of Ypres as part of the preparations for the main spring offensives of 1915.

The initial attack is well planned and the Germans are caught by surprise. 60,000 British and Indian troops attack 10,000 Germans and create a breach in the German lines. After that the rigid British plan and a quick German response means that the chance for a breakthrough is lost.

Dardanelles

Minesweepers supported by HMS Amethyst are unable to make any progress.
