Combat debut of the Renault FT-17 Light Tank (France), the first tank with a fully rotating turret.

War at Sea

U-90 sinks the US Navy Transport President Lincoln. The destroyers USS Warrington (DD-30) and USS Smith (DD-17) rush to the scene and drop depth charges which get close to U-90. The Warrington then picks up 433 men and the Smith rescued a further 687. USS Roe (DD-24) turns up later to search for more survivors.

The Paulding class destroyer USS Sterett (DD-27) attacks a surfaced U-boat, starting on 31 May and continuing onto 1 June. The U-boat escapes, despite an attempt to ram her
