War at Sea

The Wickes class destroyers USS Maury (DD-100) and USS Mahan (DD-102) are laid down at Quincy, Mass. The Maury entered service in the last weeks of the First World War, operating in the Aegean in 1919, and as a minelayer for most of the 1920s. The Mahan entered service just before the end of the First World War, and served as a fast minelayer during the 1920s.

Gives the reader a good understanding of the debates that surrounded each class of destroyer and led to their individual features.
