General Gough issues new orders for the battle, abandoning the attack on the northern side of the Ancre. A preliminary attack on 21 October is to capture the Regina Trench and the main attack will begin on 25 October. The 21 October attack was a rare success, but the main attack was cancelled due to poor weather.
