Second day of the Eighth Battle of the Isonzo, second of three short Italian offensives on Isonzo front in the autumn of 1916.
Italian infantry attack begins. In heavy rain the Italians capture large parts of the Austrian front line.
General Otto von Below is moved from East Prussia to take command of Army Group (Heeresgrupper) Below, made up of the German Eleventh and Bulgarian First Armies, facing the Allied armies based at Salonika. He holds off a series of Allied attacks while other German armies conquer Romania.
