Part of the British plan for the Battle of the Ancre Heights is for an attack along the Ancre River, to begin on 25 October. The attack has to be postponed twice, first to 1 November and then to 5 November. The poor weather continues and the attack was cancelled indefinitely
Start of the third Italian offensive on the Isonzo front in the autumn of 1916. Italian troops attack east of Gorizia and on the Carso Plateau, and make some progress on the first day of the battle.
