Second Battle of Artois: Battle of Festubert

The battle of Festubert was the second British contribution to the second battle of Artois, the main Allied spring offensive of 1915.

The attack was launched to the south-west of Neuve Chapelle. It was a two pronged attack with a narrow gap between the two prongs.

The attack began early on 15 May and the British captured parts of the German front line, with more of the original front line falling over the next few days.

War at Sea

A battleship squadron made up of Queen, Prince of Wales, Implacable and London leaves the Dardanelles to head for Italian waters as part of the agreement that brought Italy into the war.

The battleship HMS Venerable is ordered to move from home waters to the Dardanelles, officially to replace HMS Queen Elizabeth.
