War at Sea

HMS Active is detached from the Grand Fleet to search for HMS Broke, badly damaged during the battle of Jutland. The Broke makes her own way home and the Active returns to Rosyth on 3 June.

Western Front

General Fritz von Below, command of the German Second Army on the Somme Front, warns von Falkenhayn that the British are preparing for a major attack on his part of the front.

Battle of Verdun

Germans begin an attack on Fort Vaux. By the time the fort is surrounded, the garrision consists of 500 men, but the fort has lost all of its heavy guns. The Germans soon get into the tunnels, and a desperate battle begins.
