Second battle of the Masurian Lakes (or Winter Battle in Masuria)

German Eighth Army captures the town of Lyck after a week long battle.

German XXI Corps is sent on a dangerous march to the east of the Forest of Augustow, where the Russian XX Corps is making a stand. By 18 February the Germans have closed the trap around the Russians.
