Battle of the Somme: Battle of Morval

XV Corps renews its attack on Gueudecourt and the village is captured by 4.30pm

Further south the Germans abandon Combles at the junction between the French and British armies. Both armies send parties into the village and a new front line is established east of the village, improving the join between the two armies.

Battle of the Somme: Battle of Thiepval Ridge

Start of an attack designed to push the Germans off the Thiepval Ridge in order to prepare for a general offensive on the River Ancre. The attack is launched by the Canadian Corps and by II Corps. The attack meats with mixed success along the line.
