Polikarpov I-187

The Polikarpov I-187 was a design for a modified version of the I-185, to be powered by a 2,200hp M-71F engine. The design was completed early in 1943, at a time when the I-185 was expected to go into full production. The I-187 was to be armed with four 20mm cannon - two in the nose and two in the wings (up from three on the I-185) and eight RS-82 unguided rockets under the wings. It was also given a more streamlined fuselage. The aircraft was expected to reach 441mph at 20,500ft, an increase of nearly 40mph on the I-185. Work on the I-187 never progressed beyond the design stage.
