Munitionsfahrzeug 38(t)

The Munitionsfahrzeug 38(t) was an ammunition carrying vehicle produced to work alongside the 15cm sIG Grille. 102 new vehicles were produced between January and May 1944, based on the Ausf M version of the Grille with the rear-mounted gun. The conversion involved removing the gun to make more space for storage, but the gun compartment was retained and shell racks were installed in place of the gun. The crew was thus reduced to only two and the weight came down to 8 tons. The aim was to have two ammunition carries for six Grilles.

An uncertain number of unwanted Pz.38(t) tanks were also converted to this role by having their turret removed in the field. These were used to support self-propelled artillery formations.
