Douglas R2D-1

The designation Douglas R2D-1 was given to the first DC-2s to enter US military service. Five standard airliners were ordered by the US Navy, and were used as staff transport aircraft. Three went to the Navy, and were based at Anacostia, Pensacola and San Diego, while two went to the Marine Corps, and were based at Quantico, where they were operated by squadron VJ-6M.
