Air Raid on Tobruk, 9-10 July 1942
This aerial photograph was taken from one of the Wellington bombers that attacked Tobruk on the night of 9-10 July 1942. The port had fallen to Rommel on 21 July, only a few days after Axis troops reached the port in the aftermath of their victory at the battle of Gazala. The top of the picture faces roughly south-west, so the water on the left is the harbour area.
