Here we see a Sopwith F.1 Camel being towed on Lighter H.3. The idea was to use the speed of the towing destroyer and any wind to allow the aircraft to take off from the very short runway. There was no way to land back on the platform, so the pilot had to either make for land or ditch and wait to be rescued. A Camel launched from a lighter shot down the last Zeppelin to be lost to enemy action during the First World War.
