Derna Airfield after RAF Raids, 1941

Here we see Derna airfield in Cyrenaica after a series of RAF raids late in 1941 (Operation Crusader). The airfield briefly fell into Allied hands soon after this picture was probably taken, but was soon recaptured during Rommel's Second Offensive.

The aircraft include a number of the three-engined Savoia Marchetti S.M.81 (including one at the top centre), and at least one Heinkel He 111 (bottom right)
