North American B-25H 'Wabash Cannonball'

Here we see North American B-25H 'Wabash Cannonball' of the 491st Bombardment Squadron, named after either a fast express train on the Wabash, St. Louis and Pacific Railroad, or the folk song inspired by the same train. This picture was probably taken at Yangkai in China, where the squadron was based from January 1944 until September 1945.

These pictures come from the collection of Sydney Lester, who served as a Staff Sergeant in the 491st Bombardment Squadron (341st Bombardment Group). Many thanks to his son Ron Lester for providing us with this pictures.
