War at Sea
The Wickes class destroyer USS Wickes (DD-75) is commissioned. After a brief spell of service late in the First World War she took part in the US Neutrality Patrol in 1939-40, before being transferred to the Royal Navy, where she served as HMS Montgomery
The Wickes class destroyer USS Bell (DD-95) is commissioned. She escorted convoys across the Atlantic late in the First World War, but entered the reserve in 1922 and was never recommissioned.
