The Champagne-Marne Offensive was the last of Ludendorff's five major offensives that came close to breaking the Allied lines in the summer of 1918. This final offensive began on 15 July and made limited progress before the Allies counter-attacked, starting the Aisne-Marne Offensive.
Start of the Aisne-Marne Offensive, a major Allied offensive that pushes the Germans back between two and five miles, forcing the Germans to retreat back across the Marne. The Allied advance threatens to cut off German troops close to Château Thierry and Ludendorff is forced to order his army to pull back and form a new line on the Aisne and Velse rivers.
