The failure of the Verdun offensive triggers the resignation of Falkenhayn as Chief of the General Staff. He is replaced by Field Marshal von Hindenburg, with Ludendorff as Quartermaster General. Falkenhayn moves to the Eastern FronT where he plays a part in the quick defeat of Romania.
