Perthes Disease Association

Hadrian's Wall

A message from Tristan Dugdale-Pointon

As a child I was diagnosed with Perthes disease and underwent lengthy treatment which resulted in three operations and severe damage to my left hip as well as permanent metal rods in my right leg. At the age of 12 I thought I would never live an active life again. I decided I would not let the disease beat me and despite constant pain I am a qualified low level walking expedition leader and a keen (if slow) hill walker. Treatment methods have moved on considerably now but I want to show young children suffering from the disease that they can live an active life.

To this end and to raise money for the association a lifetime friend of mine Dr John Rickard and I plan to walk the full length of the Hadrian’s Wall National Trail (86 miles) between Thursday 27th July - Thursday 3rd August 2006
