A well illustrated 47 page book in the Vanguard Osprey series, this is a companion volume to Siege weapons of the Far East Vol 1 but there is some overlap on the period covered. This is due to the fact that this volume concentrates on gunpowder weapons such as cannon and thrown bombs. It also covers defensive items and machines as well as siege towers and the use of mining. The colour illustrations are excellent although at times it seems the artist got a little carried away. The focus is on China, Japan and Korea and has many good photos of museum exhibits. It covers a neglected aspect of warfare in this period and region and is very interesting if a little brief. It would be of great use to any one wargaming this period but has little information on ranges of weapons..
