Operation 'Overlord' June-September 1944: Volume 1 RAF & Commonwealth Air Force plus Luftflotte 3, Neil Robinson & Jon Freeman

This pictorial guide focuses on the British and Commonwealth aircraft that served with 2nd Tactical Air Force and Air Defence of Great Britain, the main British contribution to the aerial battle over Normandy in 1944. The book also covers a small number of Bomber Command aircraft, gliders and glider tugs and includes a supplement looking at the aircraft of Luftflotte 3.

The book starts with an introduction that traces the development of British aircraft markings and in particular the distinctive invasion stripes used to make it easier to identify Allied aircraft over the beaches.

Most of the book is taken up by the pictorial guide itself. This is organised by aircraft type and then by squadron. The basic format has four side views on the left-hand page, two side view, one top and one bottom views on the right hand page. Each illustration is accompanied by explanatory text. The illustrations are based on wartime photographs.

This book will be of great value to the modeller, providing clear detailed examples of the appearance of specific aircraft, and enough information to help reconstruct the appearance of other aircraft.
