Warsaw 1944: Poland's Bid for Freedom, Robert Forczyk

Campaign Series

This is an excellent and fascinating Osprey covering a famous but neglected event in the Second World War. It is very well illustrated with bird’s eye 3D views, photographs and colour illustrations which help bring the brutal struggle to life.

It is balanced, highlighting not only the bravery of the Polish resistance but also their shortcomings which were to hinder any chance of success. It also talks about the politics and how the Allied powers not only did little to aid the uprising but as in the case of the Russians actively helped it to fail.

The main battle is divided nicely and this helps to make clear what a chaotic and confusing conflict was at times. A very good read and of interest to anyone wanting to learn more about urban resistance warfare.
