Dewoitine D.523

The D.523 was a variant on the basic Dewoitine D.520 that used the Hispano-Suiza 12Y51 engine, giving 1,000 hp. This was the engine that was to be used in the D.551, and the D.523 was produced by SNCAM to test the engine. It was produced by fitting the new engine to D.520 No.45, and was tested between 9 May and 14 June 1940. Performance figures were not recorded, and after the tests the aircraft was restored to the D.520 standard.
