The Mustang IV was the RAF designation for the P-51D (282 delivered) and P-51K (914 delivered as the IVA). These aircraft were basically identical to their American equivalents, with the same bubble canopy and six machine guns. Seventeen RAF and three SAAF squadrons used the Mustang IV. The majority of these squadrons had also used the Merlin powered Mustang III.
