Cadwallon, king of Gwynedd, d.632
Cadwallon was one of the greatest British kings. He spent much of his reign in conflict with the kings of Northumbria, and during one attack by Edwin, king of Northumbria, Cadwallon was besieged on Priestholm, east of Anglesea (Probably now Puffin Island, less than one mile long, and much narrower). In revenge, he invaded Northumbria, with Mercian allies, and defeated and killed Edwin at Hatfield chase. Cadwallon was the only historic king of the British to uproot an English dynasty. He was killed in 633 at Rowley Burn, just south of Hexham, by Oswald, Edwin's brother, and the British never again had similar success.
