Battle of Castillon, 17 July 1453

The last battle of the Hundred Years War. The English had reoccupied part of Gascony, and John Talbot, 1st earl of Shrewsbury, decided to relieve the siege of Castillon by attacking the French encampment. The French used their artillery against the English, repelling the attack and killing Shrewsbury, after which the English army fell apart. After the battle the French reoccupied Gascony, ending centuries of association with England.
