Wounded Uhlan in Belgian hands, 1914
Here we see a wounded German Uhlan who was captured outside Ostend in the fighting of 1914. The allies tended to call all German cavalry Uhlans, although this term only really applied to part of the German cavalry force. The Uhlans quickly gained a ruthless reputation amongst the Allies, probably because they were often the first German troops to arrive in any particular area.
