Tsar Nicholas II reviews troops at St. Petersburg, 1914
Tsar Nicholas II reviews troops as they march past, at St. Petersburg soon after the outbreak of war in 1914. At this stage in the war the Tsar was very popular with the troops, but repeated defeats would erode that popularity, especially after he became his own commander-in-chief.
