Certificate of presence at Japanese surrender

Certificate of presence at Japanese surrender

Here we see a certificate issued to John Pershing Cox, one of the crew of the Cleveland class cruiser USS Wilkes Barre (CL-103), to prove he was present in Tokyo Bay when the Japanese surrender was signed on 2 September 1945. The certificate has been signed by Rear Admiral J Cary Jones, commander of Task Force 35, which took part in the last bombardments of Japan and the surrender, as well as the ship's captain and executive officer.

Many thanks to Brian K Bloodgood for sending us these pictures, which belonged to his grandfather.
