South Africans enter Orvieto, 1944

Here we see troops and reconnaisance carriers from the 6th South African Armoured Division entering Orvieto, a key town on the Tiber north of Rome. This was the location of the first intact bridge north of Rome, and fell to the Allies during the advance north towards the Trasimeno Line.
