This illustration shows the Schwerer Panzerspahwagen Sd.Kfz 231 (8.rad), the first eight wheeled armoured car to enter German service. It was a great improvement on the previous six wheeled heavy armoured cars with much better cross country performance. The structure in front of the hull is extra armour that was installed on a frame to try and five better protection against enemy tanks. This was the standard version of this vehicle, and was armed with a 20cm cannon in a fully rotating turret.
