Damaged flight deck of Ryuho, 1945
Here we see the damage caused to the flight deck of the Japanese aircraft carrier Ryuho by American naval aircraft during an attack near Kure on 19 March 1945. The attack caused massive fires and buckled the flight deck, causing part of it to rise up, creating the cracks seen here. This picture was taken at Kure on 9 October 1945, after the American occupation of Japan, and shows how little progress had been made in repairing her.
